2. Pathfinder 360 Alpha GSM
|
Permanently Installed Overhead Line FPI
and GSM Alarm Monitor
WHAT IS the Pathfinder 360 ALPHA GSM?
A combination of Bowdens permanently installed Pathfinder 360 ALPHA and the Powerwatch GSM Alarm Monitor for monitoring:
Permanent, Intermittent, Transient and troublesome HV overhead line faults.
HOW? When the power goes off the ‘Pathfinder ’ reports to a dedicated PC, SCADA network base station, internet site or mobile phone.
RESULT
System Operators know where a system fault is located and can react immediately.

PATHFINDER 360 ALPHA GSM

Features
- Based on the highly successful Pathfinder 360 ALPHA Overhead Line Fault Passage Indicator for locating Earth & Phase to Phase faults.
- Incorporates an integral GSM modem to allow fault alarm to be sent using SMS Text messages, Data Call or Paknet systems to control centres.
- Multiple alarms from a number of units deployed, will stack on the GSM network
and the SMS Messaging system will be deliver in sequence with a network time
and date stamp.
- The PATHFINDER 360 ALPHA GSM is set up and commissioned from a dedicated
Web-Page to define call receiving telephone number, and the function of the alarm
- Designed to be fitted to wood poles 3 metres from the conductors and left for a permanently to detect all types of fault. Environmentally tested to IP67.
- No visible antenna or aerial to attract vandals or theft.
- Single integral Lithium cell for up to 10 years life, (dependant on usage) with battery condition alarm and signal strength.
- Will connect through any service provider
- Time stamping identifies time of supply failure
FAULT PASSAGE INDICATION The detection of overhead line faults is based on a Pathfinder 360 ALPHA overhead line fault passage indicator, which has proved so successful for many years in locating permanent faults or persistent transient faults on 11 and 33KV overhead line applications. The new Pathfinder 360 ALPHA GSM will be mounted in a similar way to the standard unit at 3 metres from the conductors.
As with previous models of Pathfinder, the instrument should be located on a clean, unearthed, intermediate pole, and clear from other influences that might effect the magnetic field around the vicinity of the pole.
GSM – Communication Once a SIM card is inserted into Pathfinder 360 ALPHA GSM it can be set up and commissioned via a dedicated web-page on the internet. The Identity of the unit, the receiving telephone number, and the functions of the alarm can be programmed, and the message sent to prove the set up.
Pathfinder 360 ALPHA GSM uses the SMS text messaging service provided by any server.
As soon as a fault is detected, the alarm is sent to either a P.C. (for which software is provided) where it is logged with date and timestamp, SCADA based centre or internet base.
Battery voltage is also monitored.
Anti-tamper alarm is available if the instrument is removed from the pole.
Any fault downstream of a source breaker, pole mounted recloser or fuses can be identified immediately, with great benefits in time-saving.
DESCRIPTION The Pathfinder 360 ALPHA GSM outer enclosure is in a polycarbonate UV resistant material with an IP Rating of IP67. Electronics are conformal coated as a precaution against condensation. The Antenna mounting is inside the enclosure for added security.
The micro-chip controlled electronics is powered by a Lithium Thionyl Chloride Battery with a service free life of up to 10 years, dependant on usage.
A bright Flashing Xenon lamp indicator behind the clear lens gives a positive visual indication of the passage of fault current in the overhead line conductors.
COMMUNICATIONS This Pathfinder 360 ALPHA GSM incorporates the Bowden Powerwatch System which is a new generation remote monitoring system that uses a Dual Band GSM network as the communications medium.
The Pathfinder 360 ALPHA GSM outstation communicates with a base station via a GSM network SMS messaging system to report that there has been a passage of fault current on the overhead line conductors at that location on the distribution network.
The Pathfinder 360 ALPHA GSM reports to a base station that can take several forms and includes mobile telephone free standing PC, internet based site and SCADA integrated display.
