Description Bowdens have been a major influence in the design of Electronic Earth Fault Indicator
(EEFI) since the
company first introduced this type of indicator in 1990. These indicators now form a wider
and well proven
range of fault indicators for application on 11 KV and 33KV cable networks.
The OMEGA Fault Indicator is an exciting new development from this highly successful range
of instruments
that is designed to meet the demand of low cost instrumentation and minimal 'life time'
costs. It incorporates all
the features the engineer needs to help improve power supply quality.
The OMEGA offers the option of Earth Fault Indication only or Overcurrent and Earth Fault
Indication, and, with
the Special Current Sensor, can be applied to conventional three cored cables as well as
single cored cable
installations.
In common with other forms of fault indicator, the OMEGA Range provides clear visual LED
indication of the
passage of fault current and assist engineers to quickly locate a faulted section of
network, which will lie
between the last Fault Indicator to Alarm and the first not to Alarm.
The OMEGA is compact, easy to install with its new Band Current Sensor, which slips around
a cable quickly
and easily. It offers considerable economic benefits over other electronic fault
indicators and the traditional
electro mechanical EFI's.
OMEGA Description The OMEGA module electronics is encapsulated to provide protection from weather and
environmental conditions.
The controls on the front of the OMEGA can be either Reed Relay or Push Button at the
client's request. All
models incorporate user settable functions for powering OMEGA, for reset following fault,
and for transient
and/or permanent faults.
The OMEGA is EMC tested to extremely high levels necessary to ensure reliable operation in
the hostile
electromagnetic and electrostatic environment in which it is required to function. These
tests included short
circuit testing to 18kA for 3 seconds and EMC testing, normally associated with protection
relays (typically IEC
255 series).
Special Band Current Sensor Bowdens new Band Current Sensor takes just seconds to fit and is completely weatherproof.
It will sense fault
currents in the cable enabling the OMEGA indicator to alarm. The Current Sensor can be
connected to the
cable externally to the cable box or internally.
The Special Band Current Sensor can be fitted to any size of cable and can be extended to
fit any spread of
single cored cable configuration in cable boxes.
The Overcurrent/Earth Fault model will have one Special Band Current Sensor per phase.
