- ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION TO IP68
Fault passage indication The detection of overhead line faults is based on a re-packaged Pathfinder MK8,
which has proved so successful in locating hard to find permanent faults, or
persistent transient faults on 11 and 33KV overhead line applications. The new
Pathfinder MK10 – GSM will be mounted in a similar way, at ground level, although
a more secure alternative is offered to protect against theft.
As with previous models of Pathfinder, the instrument should be located on a clean,
unearthed, intermediate pole, and clear from other influences that might effect the
magnetic field around the vicinity of the pole. The sensitivity can be selected
according to the fault level (Sensitivity High for fault levels up to 150MVA, and Low
for fault levels above 150MVA.)
When the unit is turned on, a self test is carried out to prove the battery level, and
logic circuit.
Communications GSM – Communication
Once a SIM card is inserted into Pathfinder
MK10 – GSM it can be set up and
commissioned via a dedicated web-page on
the internet. The Identity of the unit, the
receiving telephone number, and the
functions of the alarm can be programmed,
and the message sent to prove the set up.
Pathfinder MK10-GSM uses the SMS text
messaging service provided by any server.
As soon as a fault is detected, the alarm is
sent to either the engineer’s mobile
telephone, or P.C. (for which software is
provided) where it is logged with date and
timestamp.
Battery voltage is also monitored, and an
anti-tamper alarm is also provided.
Anti-tamper alarm is available if the
instrument is removed from the pole.
An intermittent fault downstream of a pole
mounted recloser can be identified
immediately, with great benefits in timesaving
